As most of you already know I am a huge fan of the Freak barrels. Lately there has been a lot of variations release for the freak. I have owned or own almost all of them. I recently decided to compare all the variations in my possession using the same paint, insert, weather conditions and distances. Here was my result of 5 variations.

Keep in mind that all ratings are in relevance to each other as almost all freak barrels shoot awesome. I will assess them on a scale from 1 to 5 with 1 being the worse and in 3 categories. Accuracy, weight, and ability to self clean.

T, besides the fact of being metals that are on opposite ends of the scale, do you feel there is an advantage to using stainless inserts as opposed to aluminum? Also, I know its not much, but there is also some contribution to a weight difference, ( I know you like a "front heavy" barrel)

I think the major advantage to a steel insert is that they dont bend. You can abuse them and they are very difficult to bend. The aluminum ones are tough but not hard to ruin by bending. I had never thought to weight them.... I will when I get the chance. But obviously the stainless steel back, If I had to guess, is twice the weight of the aluminum one. But that weight is almost insignificant to the advantage you gain from its durability. Just makes me feel better knowing that my inserts are straight.

T I have yet to damage one of my aluminum inserts.. I take care of my equipment.. i'm not knocking stainless inserts, hardness may be an advantage, one I have yet to experiment with.. I know in the past, stainless barrels have always seemed to have shot better than aluminum, brass or other metals.. in some factor it may all be a myth.. something we'd have to sit and actually notice for accuracy, and go farther into since not all paintballs are exactly identical.. might have to tumble a batch to get proper balance and roundness, then do some testing.. regardless the outcome, I really like the freak insert systems.
