What year ego is this?

Just wondering what year ego this is! guy told me when i bought it it is a LE dark ego? well what year? thanks guys Also how do you tell the different been looking at 07 08 09 and they have a couple hings but what is the main things to look for to tell them apart

That looks like a SL66 to me. Only it doesn't have the XSV writen on the side??? I am willing to bet its an 06 of some kind. The top rear of the grip screams 06. But the milling and feed neck is more like an SL66 XSV....

Can you take a pic of the back of the bolt? I'm betting its a cure 1 making it an 06. And it has a Tadao board. But not the OLED.

To tell them apart... Milling, the bolt, the frame, there are a few differences.

it has the cure 3 in it that what he said but i think it was upgraded it should be here wednesday or thursday this week and i think the board is oled but not 100% sure! i will find out this week! i think the marker will be here the same time my IYAOYAS jersey will be here woot woot

Im sorry, it may be an OLED board. Not sure. Its face plate is just like the on I had on my SL66. Which was not the Tadao OLED. It was the Tadao LED.

I thought the Oled board used the stock screen that is already on it. That one, like I said, has a faceplate.

Oh it does with the Tadao M7 board and even better as soon as my Yakuza board comes in woot woot! the laser is custom done by ODD. Custom 1 of 1 from ODDpb.com its in there gallery with pictures call Dark Techno thats my marker. i will be putting up pics soon in the threads hopefully when i get off of work

Yes the 06 Star frame has the "bottle opener" on it, and 05's do not.

Nope its an 06 Dark Ego. The frame is not a dark frame, its the 06 Ego star frame.

I believe Eclipse started selling the 06 Star Frame after the Dark Ego came out, but I don't remember 100% when they started selling the 06 Star Frame.

that is a dark ego, they came out at the tail end of the 05 models. the 05 and 06 dark egos look the same, the only difference would be the internals. since your internals are upped, the only way to tell would be to email ed poorman and ask him based on the serial number. the darks had the hook on the frame first, the hook is a bottle opener. eclipse thought that **** was tight, so they started selling them too, but i think they called it the star frame. you can often find the dark frame as stock equipment on nexus egos from the later parts of 06.

also, not all sl66's came with the xsv milling. they also had bushwackers milling, dark milling, and just plain. i believe there might have been a few other styles as well. also, the dark frame with the hook will not fit on sl66's, i believe. like most sls, the frames with regular egos are not interchangeable with sl models.

but in any case, what you have there is an 05-06 dark ego. which is a hot marker. congrats.

There was no 05 Dark Ego. The only year the "Dark Ego" was made was 2006. It came out after the release of the standard body Ego.
05 had a few PL Ego's, but no Dark.

There was no "Dark frame" It was always the Star Frame and made by Eclipse. There was an "05" star frame design and an 06 Star frame. The 06 has the "bottle" opener snatch grip.

I believe ALL nexus Ego's came with the Star Frame installed, but this one I'm not 100% sure on.

The SL66 had two milling designs, the Bushwhackers and XSV. There was no "standard" SL66 and no Dark SL66. The DARK SL line did not debut until the SL74 was released and then the Dark SL74 was made (distinguished by the Warped logo milled into the body).


This specific gun was a Dark Ego that was sent to ODD paintball and had the custom design put on it. The gun has changed hands several times and I believe it is called something along the lines of "techno" but I'd have to see if ODD still has the info up about it.

I'm a marker nerd what can I say, I love looking at Egos / Geos so I've spent a lot of time digging around and reading about various markers.

I have some pretty general knowledge of other markers too, and know where a lot of stuff fits in history wise, but as Planet is really where I've focused my efforts :D

The Dark Ego was definitely not an 05 Model year gun, regardless of release. I've contacted Jack Wood to see if he can confirm release and I'm also looking on nation to see if any press releases confirm when both were released.

Its a dark pre 06 ego, fact being, the snatch grip on the grip frame matches the same grip i have on my pre 06 MANTIS ego and pre 06 XSV egos.. some private label egos where released prior the 06 model , then some time later in 06 the sl66 made its debut the 05 has a snatchless grip frame.. 05,06 both used the same front reg block...

I know this because one of my teammates had an 06 pre-ordered through swat, and gerwin let him swap his preorder for a dark because the darks were there first. Im not 100% sure if this was before or after cup, but i am sure that it was in 2005. And im also quite sure that the bottle opener snatch grip was first available on the dark egos.

In any case, OP, i hope you enjoy using your dark. Let us know how it shoots. I bet its smooth as butter after all this time. It should shoot great, in spite of its 'questionable' anno scheme, lol.

I actually remember that with the 06 and 07 Stock body guns, some people were able to get one of the PL guns before they could get the stock body gun, demand was extremely high for the 07 in particular.
I found the "release" notice from Nicky T on PBNation and it was January 2006, and referred to as the Star Frame. I know a lot of people referred to it as a the dark frame though since it was something that first showed up on the 06 Dark.

I really liked that Warped offered a lifetime warranty on them, and wonder if there are still any original owners who take them up on that, because it was only subject to eclipse's warranty if it was resold.
