Hey guys, The Ego 08 that I'm picking up is coming with a Shaft .693 back, 14" tip, and an SL .689 back.
Would it be worth it for me to buy some Shaft 3 backs (.685, .681) or would it be better to just invest in a separate barrel kit?
I'm short on cash atm, and it looks like I'm going to be paying $40 per Shaft 3 back + shipping.
Any recommendations?
Deadly Winds barrel and a Freak inserts is the way to go it a great set up

I prefer the barrel kits, and I just recently found out, there is a company in BC that does anno, and can mill out barrels for Freak Kits.

I like my DW barrels, but prefer the Shaft kit for my Ego's. I like that they match, and I'm not worried about chewing up a carbon fiber barrel on concrete.
I still use the DW exclusively on my pumps!

I think I heard though that the Shaft4 is too thin to allow for boring out to accept the freak kits. Something to keep in mind.

Super Stanchy on MCB will only freak bore the shaft2 kits and earlier HOWEVER Killswitch actually got his shaft3 on his watermelon Ego10 freak bored by somebody and he runs a stock barrel freak bored out, looks sexy.

Yea, that is what I was kinda hoping for. But if Melon is correct, I would not want to risk ruining a back, but .693 just really isn't good for anything nowadays.
I was incorrect when I first posted of the Shaft2 being freak bore able. Here is a link of Super Stanchy's thread on MCB that will tell ya more:

Barrels I will NOT accept:
Super wavy OD's
-1pc Twist Lock
-Planet Eclipse Shaft 2/3/4 Backs
-AKA Javlins
-Stainless Steel ANYTHING
-CCM 2 Piece
-Carbon Fibre ANYTHING
There is obviously more to the initial post with pricing and other good barrels that can be freak bored but I just copied the stuff that he won't bore.
If you can find a shaft 3 back that isn't used anymore then Killswitch can guide you in the right direction to a guy who freak bored his. I think it was up in Canada if I remember right but its been a while since I last thought about going through him.

I like the PE kits, look solid with the milling, well built, can usually be found in a matching anno and in the sizes I need.

Thanks Alta, I'll check his prices out.
I Think what I'm going to do now is grab the .685 and .681 backs for starters, and then if i have the funds down the line I'll consider selling the backs, and boring out the .693 to fit a freak kit. It seems like the best way that I can do it without blowing too much cash.

I think you would be just fine with getting the .685-.681 backs.I use the .685 back on both my SL74s and they work great.
