Today I returned home from work to find a marker-sized box that came in the mail sitting on my table. YAY my ego 08 is here :D. After checking the marker out, putting in the dust white ccu, and trying to figure out the menu options, I decided it was time to air it up and check for leaks.

Airing it up the first time, I turned the OOPS nob in slowly, and there seemed to be a leak in the breach/lpr area. I had read that you should turn the nob in quickly, and the leaks should stop. So I aired it up for a second time, turning the nob in quickly and...........PSHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. :( a big leak coming from the grip frame.

I tore the maker down, checked out the qev diaphragms, and lo and behold, the front diaphragm had a tear around the outer edge. So, now I'm glad i already had a 10 pack of diaphragms ordered so as soon as they get here i can replace them.

Since I had the marker mostly stripped, I decided to do a full maintain. check. After taking the lpr out I found something quite odd (here comes the question part). Inside the lpr area (not the cap, but inside the threaded part) was a small (about 1cm diamater) hard plastic...thing. I have no idea where it came from, or if this is part of the leaking problem.

If it is part of the leaking problem, I don't know if just replacing the diaphragm will make the marker 100% better. Does anyone know what this part is and where it came from? It isn't the center of the diaphragm, because just the outer part of that was ripped. It is pretty hard, and I cant find a reference to the part in the manual.

Just a side note, I also noticed kind of a hot/burning rubber smell coming from the lpr/hpr area. If this is normal, please let me know also.

All your help is much appreciated. Please help me figure out what this thing is.

This could be your problem all together. It is the lpr piston seat seal. It sits in the top part of the lpr piston. There should be a liitle indented spot for it to sit. Hope this helps!

Congrats on the purchase!

No problem. I learned all I know from the great people on all of the forums. But dude. You gotta post pic of the marker. That's just how it's done.

oh there will be one...i just gotta get the grips i bought off of driverj on it first so i can do the marker justice. One other quick question. I have never used a training mode of any kind, and i'm trying that on the ego now. Is it normal for the travel of the bolt to dwindle down as i'm shooting? Like, it starts out with the bolt going almost all the way forward, then it slows to almost not even moving.

edit: also, i am hearing a small leak coming from the torpedo. i dont know if that has anything to do with it or not.

double edit: I got that one figured out on my own. I remembered something else i read while waiting for the ego to get here. I just needed to turn the OOPS nob out about 1/4-3/4 turn and that problem was solved. so, no more dissapointed me, just a happy camper :) Pics. will be up as soon as I can. Thanks again crazyfive2.

Just to check did you stick it back on the piston? Glue?

Have talked to several pe people about it and they all say you should buy a new lpr piston. Reason being if that seal is missing or falls of you will super charge the marker. That can cause damage to things inside the marker like your noid. Just my 2c but spend 25 bucks on a new lpr piston and springs>or a new noid 125.00

The lpr pistons arnt even that much. They are $9.99. Mongo does have a valid point.

Here is a link to one.

i just kind of stuck it back in and the friction held it in place...would it fall out while i'm playing, or is that only a threat while doing maint. to the gun?

It shouldnt fall out while playing as it is a sealed part. Usually only falls out when doing maint.

it can come off during play and if you didn't glue it (BUY A NEW ONE) it will. Every time you fire the marker the piston moves off of the seat and then hits it again. If it does fall off inside the lpr the piston will try and close against it and could cause damage to the lpr housing. Buy a piston and don't use the marker until you do. Again just my 2c but I have had my seal fall off on my etek 2, cost me alot more then 10 bucks to fix.

so if i get a new lpr piston, will it come with that piston seat seal already in it? and i'm guessing that the seat seal isn't supposed to be able to come out at all?

You are correct on both of those assumptions.

well, it looks like i'm going to get a new lpr piston then. I'm not going to spend the money on the marker, just to have to dump a bunch more into it later. Thanks a ton for all the advice guys.
