Hey there, just thought I'd get some opinions from you guys. I was talking to a few people at the field and they said Geo's sound like cannons!
I personally had a hard time believing this, but I have never seen or been around anyone shooting a geo.
I have been around guys shooting spool valves, particularly a DM6 or 7. The guy was shooting at me, while playing speedball INDOORS I may add, and I had no idea he was even shooting at me, just knew balls were wizzing by my bunker.
Its just the fact my ego7 sounds like a cannon. Ive even been around a luxe and an SL94 (that I think had the hush bolt insert), that were super quiet.
So now back on track, is the geo with the gst really as quiet as other spools?
Thanks guys!

I may receive a pounding for this response, but the Geo is like a cannon compared to other spool valves. I'm particularly familiar with Droids and DMs. Both of those guns are whisper quiet compared to the Geo.
I personally believe the Geo (even with the ST kit) shoots no better than an Ego 8. I think it's completely over-rated for a spool. The LCD screen is nice, the ease of maintenance is nice, and the trigger is nice, but it doesn't shoot nice and I didn't think it was accurate at all. And, that was using a DW barrel with a good paint to bore match on the insert.
Flame me if you want, but this is what I think.

at the risk of sounding like i'm just backing my boy's play here, i agree completely with MJ's response. with respect to spool valves in particular, the geo is measurably louder than any other i have owned (droid, dm7, pmr) and not nearly as smooth (maybe close to the PMR, but not even in the same league with the other two). as for markers in general, it really does shoot very much like an Ego8. and for what it might be worth, my comments are based on first-hand experience as i have owned both the geo and the ego8 and not simply on what i have heard or read.
also, one thing to keep in mind when youre assessing information is the source. for example, if you've only ever owned DMs, then there's a good probility that you won't be very impressed by a geo. however, if you've only ever owned tippmanns, then you're likely to be wowed by a geo. opinion is a matter of perspective and experience, so if your perspective and experience are limited then so, too, will be your opinion.
As I've never shot one I can't really say much but what kinda of comparison is there to say an Ego9 or something?

i havent shot an ego9, but i have owned and shot an SL94 and the geo with a GST is much better with regards to smoothness and sound signature. however, they're both much, much louder with a chunkier shot feel than other markers in their respective peer groups. again, my opinion on this is based solely on my personal experience.

Well, I dont mess with alot of high ends, but this did answer the only real curiosity type question I had on the Geo's.
Are they as reliable as the Ego's are?
bought the only high ends I've messed with are DM's and an occasional PM so I am limited in my experience.

as for sound quality like all pe markers they are louder.
The entire idea behind the geo wasn't to make a soft sounding marker. The idea of the geo is to overcome the downfall of most spool valve markers. Durability and ease of maint. were key thoughts during the design. Major key areas you can see this in are one moving part, 3 dynamic orings total, and a solenoid valve that controls the bolt movement instead of a more complex bolt system or other means of bolt control. So the main end result is a spool valve without the spool valve problems (to many orings) and complex parts to worry about. Think of the geo as the a-10 of paintball guns kinda ugly, loud, and simple but sure gets the job done.

The Geo isn't loud, but it doesn't have the more subdued sound signature of the Matrix/shocker either.
The Geo is a great marker and shoots wonderful, and is very very easy to maintain/work on.
Compared to the Ego its definitely a bit quieter (atleast mine is and I don't have the GST kit, and my friends with a GST is considerably more quiet than mine.)

mongo is bang-on... the geo is simple and its incredibly easy to maintain. like all PE guns, the craftsmanship is impeccable and the list of goodies that come with it are second to none.

and thats the beauty of the geo... if you're not gun-savy, or not prone to routine maintenance, and you would prefer an uncomplicated marker then the geo is in your wheelhouse. the drivetrain on the geo is significantly shorter and simpler than other spoolies and is easier on maintenance and troubleshooting. heck, it so simple even this guy could service one...
