I was just looking in the Woodsball Ego thread and saw the front page topic got into finishes. I know dbug does the duracoat paint. Sideshow, you said you know someone that does anodizing...

I'm looking for laser etching. Any recommendations on a good person or company to go to? What about pricing? last, what kind of file type do they need.

Thanks.

I have a contact that does SICK lazer etching, Bill Murray and Billy Smith of Low Country Paintball. They have a few sick DM's they already did.

And Anno, see Sarge on this forum, he owns ASA another Sick Ano. After people seeing my marker last weekend, he's gotten a few more people coming to him now for their new "skin" he was at the event playing, and everyone that saw mine I sent to see him.

Awesome, Thanks for the link. Forgive my ignorance with the subject, but can you only do white? I don't understand the process so Idk what the possibilities are. I'm PM'ing the logos I want done...let me know how close to your starting price this would run...In black if you can...

Its an anno finish, same way they do the flag ones etc.

as far as the lazer being white....its actually "carving" the metal so the white is the bare metal showing through

AH....thanks for clearing that up....

Now...SS...If i wanted some detailed work done...but only in one area...can that be done....? If you need to see a pic...I'll PM you one...trying to keep things under wraps. As I said, idk much about the process and all. Can you have a gun duracoated and just ano a small area?

Like Slideshow said anything that comes stock from the factory, including private lable Egos are more than likely just anodized. Also in most cases you will just have the white laser engraving. But there is also reverse laser engraving which will laser engrave everything except your design so it will make your marker white and leave your design your current color, just like tblack's Chronic Ego8 as seen here (http://www.eclipse-owners.com/showthread.php?t=23).

I don't see what i want to do being possible....I want the gun OD duracoat with a couple logos in black. 1 of the logos is too intricate to cut a stencil for or anything like that...even on a plotter...so I thought laser was the way to go....but I want the logos black...not bare metal....

Awesome, I'll get him a PM here in the next few minutes.

What are the ups and downs between duracoat and ano?

PEOG
03-16-2009, 08:34 PM
duracoat will not be best for ego's, its a thicker layer then just the chemical anno coating.

For a tippy, powdercoating or duracoat is great, there isnt an issue with tolerances.

Egos and elektros....you have problems when you "paint" them...ie duracoat powdercoating, becasue then you have sealing issues

This is actually on a T9, not an Ego...:D...what do you think this is...an Eclipse Owners forum or something???....oh...wait...lol

I woulnt even attempt duracoating....But thats just me. The metal an A5 is made out of is great for powder coating/duracoating, but the metal on an Ego should be anno'd IMO.

PEOG
03-16-2009, 08:39 PM
oh, in that case, I have no opinion....lol

Lol yeah the gun's not the issue, I'm trying looking for the finish that will allow for the most detail. I'm thinking a dusted OD with black logos would do the trick. I was just curious as to the life of duracoat vs ano...and how bad will they each show wear and tear...

OK, another newbie to non-paint finishes with questions:

If there is a gun with something lazered in that you no longer want, how hard is it to remove the lazering?
Do you then have to get the gun re-anno'd?
Does lazering only work on metal parts?

PEOG
03-16-2009, 11:23 PM
its not actually lazering its etching the metal so to remove would mean resurfacing the entire metal

PEOG
03-16-2009, 11:24 PM
It can be done to about anything, glass, stone, etc.

think of it as a mini mini MINI dremmel tool tip

Lasering is literally scratching the surface just barely, like a mini mini dremel tool as said above, you can't remove it.

I have an ego that has been reverse lazer engraved. I was wondering if I had it anno'd all over. Would it take in the engraved areas creating kind of a ghost effect?

PEOG

look at the threads of your barrel, its annoed, so it would just flow with the material

and they are stripped BEFORE anno, so...you might loose the design all together
