So who's jumping on the bandwagon of the .50 rounds? Anyone thinking of getting the conversion kit? Anyone's already got it? Let's hear some opinions...

I have no desire to go to .50 cal personally, and I don't see it taking off in tournament play. I would rather shoot .68
just my .02

I don't really see .50 cal working out in any mainstream paintball whether it's speedball or scenario play. Also I've said this before but I'm really not impressed with .50 cal after seeing all the tests on M.Carter.
As for the conversion kits I heard that they were just a prototype and that PE hasn't actually released them for sale. Could be wrong on that one though.
I'm all for .68 cal only.

Its good to know that us Ego users have the option to use the .50 cal paint if we want to without having to buy a new gun.

that's true, thou after shooting the Nano at the range at Cup, I don't think I'll ever have the need to shoot the .50 rounds, like ever... unless it's for begginers, or someone that can't handle the weight of a full .68 set up, or someone afraid of the pain, why would anyone want to use a .50?
Most claims made about this paint so far have proved to be less than truthful, pretty much the only thing left to be seen is if it'll be cheaper or not... if it is less than, let's say 30%, cheaper than what I already pay now (usually around $30 for practice grade), how long would it take to pay off the initial investment for all the gear conversion, you know?
my personal opinion, this could possibly hurt the american market in the long run... imagine how many people will actually swallow the claims that the .50 is a superior round, go out and spend their hard earned money on a gun or conversion kit just to get to the field to be outperformed by the 68s.. to never come back to the sport.
I'd rather buy a lower grade of paint, or cap my board at 5bps semi or w/e... if money is the issue, play hopper ball or something, this whole .50 will do more harm than good...
sorry for the rant lol...

Maybe, several years down the line if it takes off. But, no plans anywhere in my near future.

Luigi, I couldnt agree more. I see it along the same lines as .43. It maybe good for pistols when doing CQB. You'd get smoked going against a TPX or Tiberius at any real range thou.
Speedball may like it for the extra rounds they can carry, but I understand it doesnt have the range to go corner to corner on a speedball court.

that's a perfect analogy with the pistols! If people decide to walk onto the field with their .50s against my .68s, oh well that's their choice I guess.. as long as everybody is chrono'd under 300 fps, the advantage will clearly be on the .68 side...
on the other hand, I'd seriously prefer if nobody on my side would be shooting .50s either, I'd consider that to be a serious handicap on my team, especially on the speedball field where it's usually like 5 on 5... imagine to loose a tourney because your corner or whatever can't reach his mirror with the .50 rounds... I'd be pissed!

actually i think .50 cal will be chrono'd at a higher fps. to achieve the same range as a .68 cal will.. I'll have to find the formula to figure out the velocity, but back in the day, i remember it figured to be for .60/.62 cal paintballs for the tippmann smg 60 to be at 360 fps and this would convert to .68 cal paintballs at 300 fps...

right, increasing the fps to around 450 would bring the .50 rounds to around the same ranges .68 rounds currently reach... the thing is, Richmond Italia specifically said in one of his interviews that the .50 rounds are supposed to be shot under 300 fps, it's the only way his claims of the projectiles carrying less energy make any sense...
but even in the advent of actually allowing people to be shooting that hot, the rounds might reach the same distances, but the flight path would probably be greatly affected by higher velocities and lower air resistance due to the smaller cross section of the .50 rounds... meaning that I'd imagine balls would be flying all over the place and not have a "flat" trajectory like it was said...
not to mention the nightmare for the refs, trying to keep track who's allowed to shoot over and under 300 fps... radar guns on the psp fields would be going bananas....
